Have I mentioned how much I LOVE wine, coffee and encouraging words that can be summed up hilariously on an ecard?

Fake it til you make it
We've all been there. Maybe a little nervous about a meeting or new experience... In my line of work, there's always a little pit in my stomach about going to an event and meeting a ton of new people - and it's MY JOB! I've been doing it for so long, you'd think I would be long over it by now - but people are unpredictable. Maybe that's why the nerves get going.
At any rate, I thought this little lion kitty was a great image to illustrate the importance of faking it until you make it.
There are some things you shouldn't fake (am I right, ladies?) but when it comes to traits you feel like you need for success: Courage, Image, a Sunny & Bright Disposition. Those things don't happen for all of us overnight.
We hold ourselves back with our self-fulfilling prophecies. What if you started telling yourself that you are happy and you chose to focus on all of the wonderful things in your life? Day after day, focusing on and making the choice to be happy would get easier and easier - until one day you aren't faking it anymore.
Imagine that!
I guess that's probably what professionals (or people much smarter than me) call building healthy habits.
Ask yourself: Are Courage, my Image and a Sunny & Bright Disposition habits?
Maybe, maybe not - but they sure as hell are comfort zones and comfort zones breed habits.
What new habits are you going to start breeding when you let go your fear of change?

- Could you be depressed because you aren't telling yourself that you're happy?
- Are you alone because you keep telling yourself that you don't deserve someone?
- Are you missing out on a promotion at work because you "could never say your idea in front of all of those people" or to your "a-hole of a boss"?

My FAVORITE book
You talk to many adults and ask their favorite book and you'll get varying responses. From something on economics, to a biography, a guilty-pleasure fiction book to some classic they think makes them sound smarter. My favorite book is a children's book.
The Missing Piece Meets the Big O by Shel Silverstein
The book starts out with the "Missing Piece" a pie shaped rock of sorts being all sad and alone. We follow Mr. Piece on his journey to independence.
I've given this book as a gift to adults and children alike. One thing that resonates with me is the eloquence and eccentricity that Silverstein lends to this most important lesson. Unfortunately many people (old and young alike) struggle to learn it.
This is my "go-to" book when someone breaks up (or worse-yet divorces). A co-worker recently shared with me that when her father passed away when she was a young child, her counselor gave her this book. I'm thinking that I'll introduce it to the kids when I'm there this summer. To me it illustrates a great point about being yourself and happy with that. Regardless of if you're trying to find a mate, a group to belong with or just a friend.
If you don't have a copy - I highly recommend it. Regardless the age of the recipient.
Enjoy!

Are you sure you want to work here?
But seriously... We're in the process of hiring for a new Administrative Assistant at my job & while that's great I just have a few words of wisdom to all the job hunters out there:
Facebook has privacy settings for a reason!
We've seen several good candidates but not one that's wowed us yet (or me, at least) and while we don't mock and ridicule behind your back - we do work in a fun & funny environment where we dish it just as well as we take it. So after the last few interviews, I've decided to share some of my rules for job hunting / interviewing:
- Facebook has privacy settings for a reason - find out what they are and use them!
- Don't say your future potential co-workers are really "entertaining". We're not sure how to take that.
- Be ready for any question. (As long as it's legal - be ready!)
- Ask questions - make it seem like you want this job not any job (even if you really want any job).
- When someone asks you if you "looked our company up" make sure you did. We will always ask!
- If there are multiple people interviewing you. Ask for their business cards. Then send them a "thank you" email or card. Their time is valuable. You have no idea how far apart this will set you from the "competition".
- Look like you care. Appearance, stature, posture, annunciation, and eye contact are very important if you want to make a good impression.
- Be the best version of yourself.
- Don't be afraid to laugh.
- Be at least 15 minutes early!
A good job / employer / workplace / co-worker will do their best to make sure you do three things (pretty much) every day: 1. Make an impact. 2. Learn something. 3. Have fun.
If you aren't doing those things - you aren't in the right place!
